School 1800
The entrance to the Royal Grammar School, Westgate Road (the old Virgin Mary Hospital where the school was located from 1607 to 1844) dated around 1800. The view is entitled 'Michaelmas Monday' and shows a procession of dignitaries going into the school for the Mayor's election. A group of locals blow trumpets, hurl abuse and generally cause a nuisance.
